320 HP+ VW Golf MKII Turbo

vwgolfturbo_7

No this isn’t “YAVG” (Yet Another Volkswagen Golf). Why not? Maybe because of it’s huge exhaust muffler or “VRtec” sticker on driver door. From outside, this is almost stock Golf with bigger rims and low suspension. So why we should be interested in this peoples wagon?

Well if you’re interested only in exterior styling stop reading this article. VRtec says that he has chosen VW Golf because it’s cheep. Uuups, it was cheep – now it’s much more valuable. He’s not crazy VW fan, it is just question about money. He would like to own new and very expensive car, i think this will happen in future.

Owner spent months working on his car. Engine, exhaust system, interior – everything makes this car very special. 2 liter 16 valve turbocharged VW engine produces 320 HP at 0.9 Bar turbo boost. To achieve over 300 HP power mark some special modifications were required. Inside the engine – special pistons were ordered (compression ratio 9:1). Big KKK 27 turbocharger with external Audi wastegate was connected to special exhaust manifold. Bigger custom made intercooler, ForgeMotorsport blow off valve and lot of hand made custom piping are made for serious performance.

Whole engine is controlled by ECU with Unichip engine management system. Ignition angle and fuel injector work were optimized on loading dynamometer. This Golf is used every day, so fuel economy on lower rpm was considered main goal. After dyna tuning car became very powerful then pushing pedal flat and economical then driving on highway.

Higher engine compression gives low rpm power and great fuel economy. With lower turbo boost higher power outputs are produced. Of course better intercooler and very precise dyna tuning is needed. High compression also means higher octane fuel.

4 wheel drive transmission always kills clutch so something stronger then stock clutch was needed. English clutch specialists at Helix Autosport suggested stronger organic disk clutch kit for day by day driving. Metal ceramic clutch kit could hold a lot more torque, but it’s not suitable for street driving.

Inside look surprises, because VW dash was replaced with one from Audi. Of course gauges look is personal style, but it also makes car very different from others. Two sport seats increase feeling that you drive real sports car.

During this year owner also added wet nitrous system. Nitrous is not needed and increases potential engine damage, but nowadays nitrous became wide spread fashion. Single nozzle nitrous system shots only +50 HP, but on turbocharged car it makes noticeable result.
